Bangkok to Phuket by Train: Surat Thani Transfer Guide
There is no direct passenger train to Phuket. To include rail in a journey from Bangkok, travel to Surat Thani Railway Station and continue to Phuket by bus, minivan or a pre-arranged road transfer. The train ends on the mainland; a ticket to Surat Thani does not by itself cover the onward ride to Phuket.

Start with the address of your accommodation. Phuket Town, the airport and beach areas such as Patong are different destinations. A bus terminal arrival can leave another substantial transfer, so compare the full journey rather than just the train fare.
Choose the train for your connection
An overnight train can make the long rail section easier to fit into an itinerary. Compare seats and available sleeper berths for your date. A first-class compartment and a second-class sleeper provide different levels of privacy; neither description guarantees that the class is available on every service. If a lower berth matters, confirm the actual berth assignment and conditions before completing your booking.
Use the complete Bangkok departure-station name shown on the selected service. Many Southern Line long-distance trains use Krung Thep Aphiwat, but “Bangkok” alone is not a sufficiently precise instruction for a taxi driver. Check the arrival date as well: the onward road journey will normally be on the following day when you take an overnight train.
Transfer at Surat Thani Railway Station
The railway station is in the Phun Phin area, outside central Surat Thani. Do not choose a bus leaving a town office on the assumption that it is beside the train platform. Ask the road operator whether its departure point is the railway station, a transfer desk or a separate bus terminal, and how you reach it.
Build the connection around the road operator’s check-in deadline. Allow time for a delayed train, collecting luggage and reaching the pickup point. A combined sales listing does not automatically mean a protected connection. Read what happens if the train arrives late and whether a later bus can be used.
Compare the complete price
Add the train fare, any booking charges, station transfer, bus or minivan fare and the final ride to your hotel. Check luggage conditions and whether a larger bag changes the road fare. Published example prices are not a quote for your travel date.
For a shorter visit, compare this itinerary with a direct flight or a through road service. The useful comparison is door-to-door travel time, total cost and how much of the journey you want to spend on a train. Rail plus road is a travel option, not a shortcut to Phuket.
